Fashion Revolution has made a dream for a fashion industry that values people and enriches lives. In our Manifesto, we declared that Fashion provides fr and equal pay. It enriches the livelihood of everyone working across the industry, from farm to shop floor. Fashion lifts people out of poverty, creates thriving societies, and fulfills aspiration.
We are proud to share three organizations that bring our vision into action by empowering women and improving their chances of meaningful work through teaching valuable making and business skills.
Secret Projects is a UK-based charity that began with the realization that skilled seamstresses were unable to generate income from selling clothes and homewares. Fritha Vincent saw an opportunity to bridge this gap by creating marketing and sales channels for these makers. Their Maker-networks are organized across India, collaborating with established NGOs to trn women in product development based on existing market demand.
Sambhali Trust operates in Rajasthan, Northern India, offering a 3-month program med at empowering local women through skills trning, vocational education, financial assistance, and health services. They m for graduates to establish their own businesses or find suitable employment after completing the program.
Custom Collaborative is an American non-profit based in New York City that provides trning opportunities to low-income immigrant women facing various barriers such as homelessness, discrimination, domestic violence, poverty, language barriers, criminal involvement, caregiving responsibilities, and inadequate healthcare. This organization equips these individuals with essential clothing manufacturing skills alongside artisan techniques.
These organizations demonstrate the power of collaboration for social change within the fashion industry. Each empowers women in their respective regions to secure better employment opportunities and improve their livelihoods through fashion.
Knowing who made your clothes is crucial because it connects you directly to the behind each piece, adding a layer of appreciation and understanding that cannot be replicated by mass-produced items. It also promotes fr trade principles and ethical standards within the industry, ensuring that artisans are compensated frly for their labor and creativity.
As consumers, our decisions shape the future of fashion. By supporting companies that prioritize fr wages, sustnable practices, and transparency in their supply chns, we can contribute to a more equitable and compassionate industry. This movement not only benefits women worldwide but also fosters stronger communities, reduces environmental impact, and promotes global economic stability.
Let us celebrate these organizations for bringing our vision of a fashion revolution closer to reality by empowering women through the power of fashion. Together, we can create a better future for all in the global garment industry.
